Founders, Matt and Chris in the original store
Two Brothers,
One Delicious Idea
In the spring of 1979, brothers Chris and Matt Masiero combined their backgrounds in culinary arts and produce retail to create the original Guido’s, a small roadside stand on Route 7 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The Masiero brothers quickly outgrew their little seasonal market, and in 1983 they opened Guido’s Fresh Marketplace, an old-world style food emporium with several vendors specializing in meat, fish, flowers, and prepared foods all under one roof.
A second Berkshire location followed in 1995, and over the decades the stores have become a destination for food lovers near and far. Now Chris and Matt’s children have joined them in the business, and Anna, Nick, and Luke have all brought their energy and expertise to the stores as Guido’s looks to the future.
On January 1, 2024, Chris and Matt officially retired, passing the cabbage to Anna, Nick, and Luke.

About the Marketplace Concept
Under the marketplace concept, separate vendors run independent businesses alongside the Guido’s departments, creating a selection and commitment to quality that helps to make Guido’s such a unique destination. Experience the skill of a traditional butcher at Mazzeo’s Meat and Seafood, order custom arrangements and baskets and shop for gifts at Bella Flora, and find tools for the cook at The Chef’s Shop.

That little roadside stand has grown, but the Masieros’ mission has remained the same…
